About Selah Community

Sacred space for deeper listening.

Selah is a space that fosters community and growth through scripture and contemplative practices designed to transform our interior selves so that we may experience a life of contentedness and connection with the world around us.

Selah is a Hebrew word that unfortunately lacks a perfect English translation. However, in the scriptures it indicates a pause. For example, as you read Psalm 89 you will notice the word “selah” at the end. This is an invitation to the reader to take a moment and pause, reflect and consider the text. When we do this the text comes to rest in us more deeply and our response to it may be more thoughtful and intentional.

God invites us to rest, it’s even in the commandments to honor the sabbath. But we must also consider the context and world in which we live. Speed, hustle, move quickly and making effort to produce seem to be the values that are admired and perhaps sought after. But there are some of us who need to recharge before entering this pace.

That’s why Selah exists. To give you a space to pause, ponder, consider, reflect and THEN respond-to God, and the world around you.

Consider Selah to be a part of your spiritual journey or perhaps a pilgrimage. Consider me a sojourner with you.

As a trained spiritual director and former pastor I have witnessed the tension many of us live in-and don’t have words for when our bodies are trying to resist one thing in exchange for something else.

Selah is here to support you as you take the rest you need, through spiritual direction, contemplative practices, and retreats I encourage you to accept the invitation to embrace a rhythm of rest with Selah Community.

Tori - Spiritual Director

Meet Tori

A steady presence for your spiritual journey.

Tori grew up in Louisville, Kentucky, as the oldest of three children in a Christian home. Her faith was shaped through Lutheran, non-denominational, and Baptist communities, giving her a deep appreciation for the richness and breadth of the Christian tradition.

For more than twenty years, holding stories has been a steady thread throughout her life and work. She began in social work, earning a bachelor's degree and spending over fifteen years walking alongside families as they navigated relational repair and healing. Later, she co-pastored a church plant in Louisville with her husband, serving Grace Community Covenant Church for nearly fifteen years before relocating to Chicago in the fall of 2021.

Tori is a graduate of North Park Seminary and the Weborg Center for Spiritual Direction, where she earned a Master of Divinity and a certificate in the art of Spiritual Direction in 2025. She is now cultivating a spiritual direction practice and contemplative community, with a particular desire to create sacred spaces and retreats for people of color to rest, reflect, and reconnect with God.

She and her husband, William, have been married for over twenty years and are the grateful parents of five children and grandparents to six. Family continues to shape and ground her understanding of love, presence, and faith.
